M97 - The Owl Nebula
Object: M97 (NGC3587)
The Owl Nebula - Planetary Nebula
Const.: Ursa Major
Camera: SXV-H9 Scope: Tele Vue NP101 Mount: Losmandy Titan
Filter(s): L:Hα:OIII:OIII Exposure: 12x8m:8x8m:8x8m:8x8m blank
The Owl Nebula M97 in Ursa Major, including the Hickson Compact Group HCG50. This image consists of a stack of 12 eight minute luminance images, and stacks of 8 eight minute images taken through Hα and OIII filters. The Hα data was used for the red channel, with the OIII data being used in equal parts for the blue and green channels. The images were acquired using an SXV-H9 CCD camera through a Tele Vue NP101 4" f/5.4 refractor. The images were calibrated, defect-corrected, stacked and auto color-balanced using AIP4Win V2. This image has been resampled down from its full size of 1291 x 1009.
The chart below identifies the brighter objects in the field of the image.

The Owl Nebula - Planetary Nebula
Const.: Ursa Major
Camera: SXV-H9 Scope: Vixen VC200L @ f/6.4 Mount: Losmandy Titan

The Owl Nebula M97 in Ursa Major. This image consists of a stack of 16 four minute luminance images, and stacks of 4 four minute images taken through red, green and blue filters. The images were acquired using an SXV-H9 CCD camera through a Vixen VC200L 8" f/9 Cassegrain equipped with an f/6.4 focal reducer. The images were calibrated, defect-corrected, stacked and auto color-balanced using AIP4Win V2.

The Owl Nebula - Planetary Nebula
Const.: Ursa Major
Camera: SXV-H9 Scope: Vixen VC200L @ f/6.4 Mount: Losmandy Titan
Filter(s): IR block Exposure: 16x4m Images binned 2x2
This image of the M97, the Owl Nebula in Ursa Major, was acquired using an SXV-H9 CCD camera mounted on a Vixen VC200L, an 8-inch f/9 aspheric (VISAC) Cassegrain. The image is a stack of 16 four-minute exposures binned 2x2 that were stacked using AIP4Win. This image has been stretched pretty hard and given a strong gamma boost to show up all the faint galaxies spread across the background.
